The Future of Charlotte Is Taking Shape North of Uptown
Charlotte Is Building Different: Camp North End Gets a Power Player & Joinery Alley Comes to Life
Before you dive in — click here to check out our video breaking down both of these stories for a quick visual overview.

If you're thinking about moving to Charlotte — or you already live here and love keeping up with everything happening in this city — the past few weeks have delivered two major stories worth knowing about.
Charlotte is evolving fast. And two developments north of Uptown are reshaping what life in this part of the city looks like.
Here’s what you need to know.
Camp North End Just Got a Major New Partner
Camp North End — the beloved 76-acre redeveloped missile plant just north of Uptown — has entered its next chapter.
Atlanta-based investment firm Jamestown has made an undisclosed investment in the campus, stepping in as general partner to help guide the future of one of Charlotte’s most exciting mixed-use destinations.
If the name sounds familiar, it should.
Jamestown is the firm behind:
- Ponce City Market in Atlanta
- Industry City in Brooklyn
They specialize in transforming historic industrial spaces into thriving cultural and economic hubs — and they already understand the Charlotte market. Jamestown previously owned Birkdale Village and currently co-owns Optimist Hall, one of the city’s most successful redevelopment stories.
What This Means for Camp North End
Camp North End already hosts more than 95 businesses, but this investment signals that the real growth is still ahead.
The campus has entitlements for up to 3.2 million square feet of additional development — meaning retail, office, residential, and experiential space could expand significantly over time.
Key points:
- ATCO Properties & Management (owner since 2016) remains involved
- Shorenstein (partner since 2018) stays on
- The existing Camp North End team remains in place
That last piece matters. The culture, creativity, and local-first energy that made Camp North End special aren’t going anywhere — but now the project has institutional backing capable of scaling it in a serious way.
For anyone considering moving to Charlotte, this is exactly the kind of place that makes the city feel different from other fast-growing Sun Belt metros:
- Walkable
- Creative
- Adaptive reuse done right
- Locally rooted, but nationally recognized
And now — positioned for long-term growth.
Joinery Alley: Charlotte’s First Pedestrian-Only Corridor

Just a few minutes away in Optimist Park, something entirely new is taking shape.
Charlotte-based urbanist development firm Space Craft is putting the finishing touches on Joinery Alley — a pedestrian-only corridor that genuinely feels unlike anything else in the city.
Located between the three Joinery apartment buildings — already known as Charlotte’s first car-optional apartment complex — the alley draws inspiration from Japan’s yokocho streets.
The concept is simple:
Remove the cars. Let people come first.
What to Expect
Joinery Alley is expected to fully activate later this year with businesses like Small Bar and Sharigato opening their doors.
The programming vision is ambitious:
- Food trucks
- Live concerts
- Farmers markets
- Artist showcases
- Pop-up events
Entrances will be located on E. 21st Street and E. 22nd Street.
What This Means for Charlotte Real Estate
Developments like Camp North End’s expansion and Joinery Alley’s launch don’t just make Charlotte more interesting.
They directly influence:
- Buyer demand
- Rental demand
- Investment potential
- Long-term property values
Neighborhoods like:
- NoDa
- Optimist Park
- Villa Heights
- The corridors north of Uptown
have already been among the most closely watched submarkets in Charlotte. Strategic investment and walkable activation only reinforce why.
If you're thinking about buying in Charlotte — whether as a primary residence or an investment property — these are exactly the kinds of neighborhood signals worth paying attention to.
