Walmart Announces $300 Million Fulfillment Center in Kings Mountain, Bringing 300+ Jobs to the Charlotte Region

Big news for the Charlotte region’s economic landscape: Walmart is making a significant investment in Kings Mountain with a new fulfillment center that’s expected to create more than 300 jobs.
The $300 million project will focus on distributing large items like furniture, appliances, and televisions, and is slated to open in 2027 at the Kings Mountain Corporate Center—one of the area’s largest industrial properties at nearly 1.3 million square feet.
Jobs and Opportunities
The new facility will generate over 300 positions between 2026 and 2028, with an average annual wage of $69,360. These roles will offer long-term career growth opportunities, supporting Walmart associates in building their futures with the retail giant.
Local Impact
The project received strong support from local and state leaders. Gaston County and Kings Mountain provided incentives totaling nearly $10 million, and the N.C. Economic Investment Committee approved a Job Development Investment Grant of up to $3.7 million over 12 years.
A Growing Footprint
This is not Walmart’s first major investment in the Charlotte region. In 2020, the company acquired a 1 million-square-foot industrial building in Troutman, creating over 500 jobs with a similar fulfillment operation. These moves reflect Walmart’s broader strategy to compete with e-commerce giants and strengthen its logistics network.
With the Kings Mountain Fulfillment Center, Walmart is poised to be a major player in the Charlotte region’s industrial and economic growth while providing high-quality jobs and supporting local communities.
